Kathrine Lawes

TO HONOR THEIR SOULS
Perhaps you have never heard of Katherine Lawes. Katherine was the
wife of Lewis Lawes, warden at Sing Sing Prison from 1920-1941.
Sing Sing had the reputation of destroying wardens. The average
warden's tenure before Lewis Lawes was two years. "The easiest way to
get out of Sing Sing," he once quipped, "is to go in as warden." In
his 21 years he instituted numerous reforms - and an important part of
his success was due to his wife Katherine.
Katherine took seriously the idea that the prisoners are human beings,
worthy of attention and respect. She regularly visited inside the
walls of Sing Sing. She encouraged the prisoners, ran errands for them
and spent time listening to them. Most importantly, she cared about
them. And as a result, they cared deeply about her.
Then one night in October of 1937, news was "telegraphed" between the
prison cells that Katherine was killed in an accident. The prisoners
petitioned the warden to allow them to attend her funeral bier. He
granted their strange request and a few days later the south gate of
Sing Sing swung slowly open. Hundreds of men - felons, lifers,
murderers, thieves - men convicted of almost every crime conceivable,
marched slowly from the prison gate to the bier, reassembled at the
house and returned to their cells. There were so many that they
proceeded unguarded. But not one tried to escape. If he had, the
others may have killed him on the spot, so devoted were they to
Katherine Lawes, the woman who daily walked into Hell to show the men
a piece of Heaven.
Katherine's strength was to see the men less as prisoners and more as
individuals. Thomas Moore has said, "We can only treat badly those
things or people whose souls we disregard."
To treat people well is to honor their souls. To honor their souls is
to understand what it means to love your neighbor.

The cosmic evoloutionary purpose
By engaging the Cosmic Evolutionary Purpose together, (so as to improve ourselves and each other at will) the course of history will be transformed for the better. In doing this we become active participants in Creation, not just creative persons. In such an undertaking, individual persons could be likened to atoms and communities to molecules, whereby the first cells, (cities) of a new human culture would find their highest expression. When our community is dedicated to the Cosmic Purpose, it then takes on much the same role as DNA does in the creation of new, fresh life for our kind, one which could replicate itself worldwide in a relatively short period of time. This truly revolutionary basis for living together could sweep real vision and wisdom into the stagnant pools of modern society. But to crystallize this ideal basis for community requires a great deal of intelligence, based upon knowledge of how the universe really is, not necessarily how we imagine or want it to be. To begin, we can use the principles of nature as a basic template. Then, through self realization of the consciousness we are, truly See how we can interact with each other as SOULS in a higher, superior way. This will be a way of interaction and understanding, that is far beyond what has ever before been known in the history of mankind. Let us keep ever in mind that there exists cosmic purposes far higher than those currently employed by mainstream society. It is to these we must strive, so as to create something truly great together. Taoism

Its a new year,a new congress here in america,and a whole new set of problems to deal with.This is what makes us great.We care about what we do,and who we are as a nation.As we lay President Ford to rest,we are faced with conflicting images of the pomp and cerimoney of a 6 day long wake,which was just so the rest of Washington could finish there holiday vacations,we also see images of saddam Hussains body being deposited back to his family in a wooden box in the back of a pickup truck.I realize that there is no comparison of the charicter of these two men,one a bully,one an ivy league athlete,two ex leaders of two powerfull nations.But there just seems something wrong with this picture,especially when you see it posted on the web filmed with a cell phone.Maybe the democrates will get it right..god knows the republicans had there chances.Take a bow Dennis Haster,you,foley,and the other crook from texas proved to all of us your all thieves,you had your chances to stop this petofile,yet you did nothing.and attorney general albert gonzoles,you consuled the President on getmo,and how you could get around human rights.Shame on you.yeah yeah,I know..plausable deniability..Reagon taught us that during iran contra..but heres the difference..They were trying to get hostages home.Your doing it to circumvent exsisting basic human rights we believe everyone should have,and is born with them,even if they arent born in the usa!
